Bereishit Dance Company

Drawing from many sources, including street dance and martial arts, the Korean Dance Company Bereishit Dance presents two NYC premieres: “Balance and Imbalance” and “Judo.” With “Balance and Imbalance,” dancers seamlessly partner and then hurtle through space, employing the laws of physics to illustrate the constantly turning wheel of opposition and harmony at the heart of all relationships. The performance, featuring six dancers, is accompanied by an ensemble of Korean traditional drummers.

In “Judo,” featuring six male dancers, Soon-ho Park views sports as a way to control, mediate, traverse and indeed transcend the violent, churning urges within us. Using this idea, “Judo” deploys the symbolic meaning of sports as a counterpoint and frame of reference and presents, through the medium of dance, the harmonious play between rhythm, movement and space. Co-presented by the Korean Cultural Center NY.

Cowboy

From the author of Black Angels Over Tuskegee, Layon Gray, Cowboy is the first full on western to hit a Broadway or off-Broadway stage in over 80 years. He is the greatest U.S. Deputy Marshal you've never heard of. Many scholars believe that Bass Reeve's life inspired the Lone Ranger character. Cowboy is set in 1888 Oklahoma Indian territory. The story follows Bass Reeves and his Indian companion as they search for two criminals fleeing to the Mexican border, one of whom Reeves has a death warrant for. They all find themselves stuck in an old saloon as a deadly tornado slowly approaches.

"Playwright Layon Gray has a gift for turning a wide range of stories from Black history into engaging, thought-provoking 21st century drama. The title refers to yet another illustration of slavery’s legacy, a story that’s key to the play. After experiencing Cowboy, you may never hear the word the same way again." – Miami Herald

Perfect Crime

Perfect Crime is a funny, sexy thriller about three psychiatrists, a detective, a crazy patient and at least one dead body. A man is murdered -- maybe. Did his wife kill him? The detective investigating the case thinks so - until he starts to fall in love with her and the husband mysteriously reappears. The New York Times calls Perfect Crime "an urban legend... a crackling thriller." The New Yorker calls it "a cunning little whodunit" and UPI says "If Harold Pinter, Tennessee Williams and Agatha Christie ever sat around a bar one night and said 'Let's write a murder mystery,' they might have come up with Perfect Crime."

Now in its 24th year, Perfect Crime "may well outdistance The Mousetrap" says WNEW. Perfect Crime is the longest running play on or Off-Broadway - ever.

The Office A Musical Parody

Don’t miss this hilariously loving lampoon of your favorite TV show! Step into Dunder Mifflin in this immersive parody experience and “work” with all your favorite officemates. The beloved mockumentary reaches a new level of laughs with The Office! A Musical Parody. Fans of the television series will be happy to know that all their favorite characters are on board, as are some key plot elements. When the original British version of The Office premiered in 2001, it brought something completely new to television comedy. Sure, sitcoms had lampooned office culture before, but never with the cringe-inducing level of awkwardness that creators Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant allowed their characters to display. Then the American Office became an enormous hit series -- and a comedy landmark. In the hands of writers Bob and Tobly McSmith, the stage version adds an unexpected tuneful touch that takes things to another place entirely, and the outrageousness lives on.

Vanities–The Musical

Vanities–The Musical is a heartfelt and humorous chronicle of the lives of three women, Joanne, Kathy, and Mary, tracing them from their late teen years through adulthood. They grow and change, testing the limits of what they thought they knew about themselves, as well as the narrow views of women society has presented them.

Based on the hugely successful play of the same name by Jack Heifner (who also wrote the book for the musical), the action takes us through three decades in these women’s lives from 1963 to 1990. Starting as vivacious small-town cheerleaders and best friends in high school, then sorority sisters in college, and, finally, women with separate and very different lives, they travel unique journeys that will ultimately bring them back together, giving them the chance to encounter each other once again—mature women able to face one another with honesty and compassion. Vanities—The Musical celebrates the power of women and their unique bonds of friendship.
